April 2024, 7am on a beach in Exmouth.
Two hatchlings emerge during the daytime. Hatchlings are vulnerable to seagulls, but on this morning, a school of flying fish had landed on the beach, creating a timely distraction. This gave the hatchlings a clear path to the ocean. Female hatchlings take over 20 years to mature and return to the same location where they were born to lay their own eggs.
